Everything we become happens within the first few years of life.
What is spoken over us can make a difference between success and failure. Not everyone who has experienced negative words spoken over them has failed, but for those of us who are still feeling the residual effects of those words, the cycle can be broken. As with all things, there is a healing process.
Founder and Ministry Leader Kiwanya Tende, knows all too well, how the effects of negative words can harm you as you walk through life.
BecomingU Ministries was birthed from a conversation that was had during a mentor session. Her mentor told her that there was such a great call on her life, and with that call, she would make a difference in the lives of teens and women of all ages.
It dawned on Kiwanya, that ministering to women who have been incarcerated was not the only passion she held close to her heart. She knew that because she experienced a teen pregnancy, and walked through the trauma associated with being a teen mom, she could minister to young women, teaching them how to take those negative words that have been spoken and turn them into something positive.
BecomingU’s mission is to encourage teens and young women to believe that life spoken words, create a life well lived.
Will every day be easy? Absolutely not. Will there be triggers and challenges? Of course, but the goal is to encourage teens and young women to push through the obstacles that are holding them back, due to negative words spoken. God has a purpose for each of us. Psalm 57:2 reads: I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose, for me.” He loves us and wants to change our lives. Until we know our purpose, words that have been spoken over us from days, weeks, months, even decades ago, will keep us folded. When words of affirmation are spoken over your life, and you practice the things God has said about you, you can begin to live a life that is conducive to the emotional healing you desire to have.
The prayer of founder Kiwanya Tende is that the lives of teens and young women will be radically changed, as the focus of not knowing who they are shifts to knowing whose they are, regardless as to who or what was spoken over them. We want to see them healed, releasing the negative and embracing all that God has in store, by applying the Word of God.
A 4-week personalized curriculum, Project UNFOLD, was created so that each person who completes the Project finds herself healthier emotionally and mentally. According to Google, the definition of the word “unfold” means to open or spread out from a folded position; to unravel or uncoil to reveal or disclose. This is exactly what BecomingU Ministries wants to see happen in the lives of teens and young women.
